Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispies

Three years ago, in 2007, the New York Times posted a recipe for Caramelized Brown Butter Rice Krispies Treats.  I glanced at it and stored it in my brain – it was a recipe that sounded so good, my brain didn’t override this data for 3 whole years.  This is coming the same brain that has trouble remembering if “90″ has an “e” in it or not.

So a week ago I was ready to make them, and I googled it to find the recipe — only it was listed #2 in the search.  Trumped by  Smitten Kitchen.  I read her post about Salted Brown Butter Krispies Treats – her own recipe, because NYT distorted the “cereal-to-marshmallow ratio,” resulting in disaster. Close to 400 comments, most of them swearing her krispies changed their lives.
